Day one of the trip and Neil only got confirmation this morning that he would be able to go with us. His work was taking forever to finalize his leave which they then eventually declined but he fought it and finally got the go ahead.
I got up at 4:30 for a 45km cycle which is part of the training for my next trip to China and Tibet. When I got back Neil phoned and let me know that he can go with us. Since Lance was quite disappointed that Neil couldn’t make it I told Neil to keep the news quite till we got to Lance's place.
I went past Neil's house to get him and from there we went to Lance. Lance was surprised to see Neil and looked very relieved. We had a beer. Said good bye to Lance's wife who where kind enough to let her man go on Valentine's Day.
From Lance's place we rode to Reitz where hunger struck and we looked for something to eat. We found a shop that had a braai outside. When we asked they told us the braai was finished for today but then offered to start a new fire for us. The owner of the shop was even nice enough to buy us beers free of charge. We braaied pork kebabs and rashers while watching the people of the town come past. We even saw a guy on a motorbike with only one leg. From Reitz it was to Kestell where my mother lives. On our way we rode through a swarm of bees and I got stung in the neck by one. Our bikes and helmets where completely covered in splats of bees.
That night we went to watch the rugby and eat at the golf club with my mother, sister and her son.
